Mr McDowell brings decades of experience across Australia’s defence, naval shipbuilding and advanced technology sectors, including his current role as Chair of ASC Pty Ltd and previous executive leadership roles with the Department of Defence and BAE Systems Australia.
His appointment marks an important step in Aurizn’s continued growth as the company expands its sovereign technology capabilities to support defence and national security priorities across Australia and allied markets.
Aurizn Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Humble said Mr McDowell’s deep understanding of complex defence capability delivery, sovereign industrial capability and strategic industry growth would help guide the company through its next phase of expansion.
“Jim is one of Australia’s most respected defence industry leaders and brings an exceptional understanding of the strategic environment, defence capability priorities and the importance of sovereign innovation,” Ms Humble said.
Mr McDowell said Aurizn was well positioned to support emerging defence priorities focused on preparedness, resilience and sovereign capability development.
“Australia’s strategic environment is driving increased demand for advanced sovereign technologies that can deliver operational advantage and support faster capability development,” Mr McDowell said.
“Aurizn has built a strong reputation for combining specialist engineering and scientific expertise with Australian-developed software, AI / Machine Learning and advanced modelling tools, and I look forward to supporting the company as it continues to grow and deliver innovative solutions for defence and national security customers.”
The appointment reflects Aurizn’s continued investment in strengthening its leadership and governance capability as it expands its role in Australia’s defence and national security ecosystem.
